<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">My passion for Pyrex began with inspiration from two
friends, also Pyrex adopters, and some beautiful pieces given to me from my

flashed back to big, southern holiday meals filled with family and love. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">So why do I say adopter instead of collector? Because I do
not go online and pay the absorbent prices of resellers, nor those of the
antique stores with shelves full of shiny, yet expensive, Pyrex. Instead I
spend my lunch breaks searching thrift stores and my weekends hunting at garage
sales for these beautiful dishes of old. I adopt them from the bottom of molding boxes,
the top of dusty shelves, the backs of neighbors’ cabinets, and then I clean
them up and proudly give them a new life displayed in my kitchen. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Based on my preferred procurement style, I find many of
these beautiful pieces in sad shape. There are many tricks to cleaning these;
and many require harsh, abrasive chemicals. There are also a few natural
options for cleaning vintage Pyrex, and I will share these with you so you can avoid
additional damage to any of these oldies-but-goodies hiding out in your
kitchen. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Soak in hot water and give the piece a good old fashion scrub. The hotter the water, the better.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">If that doesn’t do the trick, soak the piece overnight in vinegar and scrub again.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">If that vintage grime is still holding on tight, take a drop of lemon oil, apply to the grub, and work it in well. Lemon oil is a great cleaning agent.</span></li>

<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">*If the Pyrex still needs work, consider oven

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The saddest symptom I find is loss of shine. Some pieces
have their shine, or a bit of shine, but many have fallen victim to the modern dishwasher.
Dishwasher damage, or DWD, is sadly irreversible. For pieces you plan to use
and display, it is time to bring out the lemon oil again and give the piece a
good coating. Coconut oil can also be used for a more pronounced shine, but if
you use the coconut oil, you cannot put the pieces in the oven. They will turn
black. Both options can make Pyrex a little slippery, so hold on tight. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">SF: I first “discovered” essential oils after my
first husband passed away suddenly in 2004.
I primarily was interested in learning how to use essential oils for
myself. However, I soon discovered how useful these little bottles of oils
could be for everyone and wanted to learn more about them – with a respected
professional in the industry. So, in 2005, I enrolled with the Penny Price
Academy of Aromatherapy (UK) and began my journey into aromatherapy!</span><span style="background: white; color: #222222;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">SF: It was quite a long time ago so I can't
remember exactly my first time of using essential oils :) However, I do
remember that I began making up massage blends for friends and family to try to
help with their aches and pains!</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">SF: It's difficult to name just one as there are several respected
names in the aromatherapy industry. However, my first comprehensive resource on
essential oils when I was studying was Julia Lawless's Illustrated Encyclopedia
of Essential Oils. Although my copy of this book is a little dog-eared these
days from thumbing through it so many times, I still refer to it today. What I most liked about this book as a student was that the essential oils/plants are
listed via their botanical name, and not their common English name. This helped
me to learn botanical names quickly!</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">SF: I have a few but I generally name geranium (<i>Pelargonium
graveolens</i>) as my favorite essential oil. It is relatively gentle to use,
versatile in its uses, and is good to use for skincare – and with many women's
problems. It also has a great rosy aroma – without the heaviness of rose.</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">ADOT: What DIY product do you

<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0000cc; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">SF: My most useful blend is a simple lotion with geranium
(<i>Pelargonium graveolens</i>) and tea tree (<i>Melaleuca alternifolia</i>) essential oils.
I find this recipe useful for insect bites and stings, skin inflammations,
cuts, and rashes. Living in Arizona, these are frequent occurrences! You can
use a simple white lotion, balm, or butter as the base for this product - such
as those detailed in the Sedona Aromatherapie Basic Butters, Balms, Creams and
Lotions Course:
<a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/basic-butters-balms-creams-and-lotions-course-for-beginners-in-aromatherapy.html" target="_blank">http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/basic-butters-balms-creams-and-lotions-course-for-beginners-in-aromatherapy.html</a>.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">Water-based, as opposed to oil-based, is my preference as it is
more “cooling” for these conditions. A simple recipe would be:</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">2
oz base lotion/balm/butter</span></li>
<li><span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">8
drops of geranium (<i>Pelargonium graveolens</i>) essential oil</span></li>
<li><span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">10
drops of tea tree (<i>Melaleuca alternifolia</i>) essential oil</span></li>
</ul>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: white; color: #222222;">ADOT: What do
you think is the biggest barrier that's keeping people from using
essential oils. What's your advice for overcoming that?</span></b><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">SF: I think that many people get confused by the
often-conflicting information on the internet about essential oils. My advice
is to purchase a few good books on
aromatherapy by respected names in the field (do your research), then if you
want to take it further take a good course in aromatherapy. It can be just a short
beginner course or a full certification course, depending upon your goals. I
offer various options for people to start using essential oils safely including
my book Authentic Aromatherapy:
<a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/authentic-aromatherapy-by-sharon-falsetto.html" target="_blank">{HERE}</a>,
short product courses and kits:
<a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/make-your-own-aromatherapy-products-kits.html" target="_blank">{HERE}</a>,
and a full certification in professional
aromatherapy: <a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/certification-in-professional-aromatherapy.html." target="_blank">{HERE}</a>.</span><span style="background: white; color: #222222;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222;"><br />
<b>ADOT: It is really easy for beginners and
those on a budget to get overwhelmed when wanting to get started with essential
oils and making their own products because some of these projects take so
much supplies. Do you have a good starter option for people who are looking to
just test the waters? How do you determine when it's time to invest in more
supplies (essential oils, tools)? What's the best plan to start building up
your inventory without breaking the bank? </b></span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">SF: Unfortunately, once you start purchasing
essential oils you will always find there is another one that you want or need!
It becomes a passion! However, if I was to recommend a starting point based on
the options I offer, I would recommend one of the make-your-own kits. They
include all the materials needed to make the product in the kit and are a
popular purchase around Holiday time: </span><a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/make-your-own-aromatherapy-products-kits.html" target="_blank"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">{HERE}</span></a><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">. If you then want to
go further, I would opt for the Foundation Course in Aromatherapy with the kit
option – it includes everything you need to complete this course and you get a
good grounding in essential oils: </span><a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/foundation-course-in-aromatherapy.html" target="_blank"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">{HERE}</span></a><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">. Finally, once you are
really serious, I would recommend continuing with the Certification in
Professional Aromatherapy: </span><a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/foundation-course-in-aromatherapy.html" target="_blank"><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">{HERE]</span></a><span style="background: white; color: #0000cc;">. Although this course
doesn't include supplies, I give you a comprehensive list of supplies needed,
and choices to make the dozen products on this course. This path will help you
to build up your supplies slowly – and is, in fact, the route several students
have taken. It helps to plan your budget as well. By the completion of the

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">SF: Prioritize! Sometimes I get caught up in
all the writing I do that I don't have time to progress on the blending side.
As much as I love writing and sharing advice, I was recently becoming
frustrated with my lack of time – and space – to blend more recipes. So, I am
now in the process of re-organizing my work space to be able to take on more
custom blending projects shortly. I think that this will be the inspiration for
more recipes and more projects.</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="background: white; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">SF: One thing I have learned about blending
and making essential oil recipes is that sometimes the best recipes occur by
“accident.” Even if you follow the step-by-step instructions prepared by
someone else, it may not turn out the way you had initially hoped. Tweaking a
recipe is all part of the learning experience – and will lead you to discover
more. So, take a leap of faith, and try to put aside any pre-conceived ideas!</span><span style="color: #222222;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<b><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">ADOT: Space
is often a big barrier, whether it's trying to building a DIY project in your

How do you keep things organized? Is there a best way to get the most out

<div style="background: white; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">SF: As I mentioned above, I have recently
outgrown my work space for blending! So, I am re-organizing, after re-assessing
my needs. In the Certification in Professional Aromatherapy course, there is
one section on how to organize your supplies and evaluate your needs. Invest in
storage bins, label everything, and store appropriately. Even if you have small
space it can work for personal use. Don't buy too many supplies at first but
consider the basics of what you need – also covered in the Certification in
Professional Aromatherapy. For professional use, you may have to eventually
consider expanding your space – like me :)</span><span style="color: #222222;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #222222;">ADOT: For

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background: white; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">SF: It is worth remembering that essential
oils are not “toys” and that all children should be supervised when using
essential oils. Very often you see the phrase “play with essential oils” and it
can be misleading. In addition, essential oils should always be stored out of
the reach of children.</span><span style="color: #0000cc;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div style="background: white; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background: white; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #0000cc;">However, properly supervised and with
safe use, you can do projects with essential oils for older children. For
example, when my nieces were nine and
ten years old, I supervised a project with them to make lip balms. They enjoyed
the experience – and loved using the lip balms afterwards! You can allow them to
take part in the process as long as you do not leave them alone with the
essential oils and other ingredients – and especially around hot pans.</span><span style="color: #222222;"><o:p></o:p></span></span><br />

<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">My star rating: </span>4/5<br /><br /><b>My thoughts:</b> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">This book was a pleasure to read. It was like sitting down with Ms. Falsetto and chatting about essential oils over a pot of tea. The writing is easy to understand and engaging. It really is written as though she's explaining essential oils to her dear friend. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwRPPgsKvc84bxcYxl6AocEWIItuouivCt3cVNdQnnyFOjQSzqCQ2oOJ9gDrSQfAuffpY2eyZgIclIyX6mfs-izx0AjozDDXRHbFWlIok-YbKHL1cUX96CetI8oSueMwN6FThSrvvKOIst/s1600/IMG_3240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwRPPgsKvc84bxcYxl6AocEWIItuouivCt3cVNdQnnyFOjQSzqCQ2oOJ9gDrSQfAuffpY2eyZgIclIyX6mfs-izx0AjozDDXRHbFWlIok-YbKHL1cUX96CetI8oSueMwN6FThSrvvKOIst/s1600/IMG_3240.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">This book is in three parts: <i>Part One - The Basics of Essential Oils, Part Two - Using Essential Oils, and Part Three - Essential Oils Reference Guide.</i> In <b>part one</b>, we cover the basics, like history, quality, and chemistry. Something I really liked and haven't seen in other aromatherapy books is a table listing several common plant families and their aromatherapy properties. It helped me grasp some bigger concepts about the therapeutic properties of essential oils. For example, frankincense and myrrh are both in the Burseraceae family and have therapeutic values for healing wounds and scar tissue. In this section she also talks on a basic level about plant nomenclature, which I think would be very helpful for anyone without a biology background. Finally, other things covered in this section that I have no seen in other books include - a discussion about endangered essential oils, regional essential oils, and the difference between fragrance and essential oils. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">In <b>part two</b>, we learn how to use essential oils. This section starts off with a great chapter on safety. Whenever I do a book review, I'm always asked about the author's view on internal use - Ms. Falsetto covers this topic several times and believes there can be a benefit but that you should consult a professional trained in aromatic medicine. She also covers inhalation and topical use. Additionally this section teaches us about essential oils for women, babies and children, for the home, travel and seasonal and special occasions (have a fragrant theme at your wedding!). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Part three</b> profiles 40 essential oils, giving their botanical names, synonyms, botanical family, note, what it blends with, alternative oils, method of extraction, distribution of plant, description of plant, characteristics of essential oil, main chemical components of essential oil, main therapeutic properties of essential oil, uses for body care, uses for health, uses for women, uses for babies and children, use for the home, use for travel, social and seasonal use, ways to use, cautions and cost. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">In most of the chapters, there is a "how to use" section, giving practical information to help you implement it into your life. This book has an excellent bibliography and index. It does lack detailed information about the author, however that is available on her website <a href="http://www.sedonaaromatherapie.com/about.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Overall, I would recommend this book for readers who are just starting to learn more about essential oils. Ms. Falsetto states the book "is a simple introduction for either the professional or lay person new to aromatherapy." I did learn a few things and I wouldn't consider myself "new" to essential oils, so I think it's also a great addition to people, like me, who enjoy reading different perspectives </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">2 T beeswax (I use pastilles)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">3 T coconut oil</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">1 T shea butter</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">2 T jojoba oil</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">10 drops grapefruit essential oil*</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">10 drops peppermint essential oil</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
Put all the ingredients except the essential oils into a glass jar, use the warm water bath method (need details: go <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/01/lip-balm-bliss.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>) on the stove to melt the harder oils. Remove from heat and add the essential oils. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
Immediately pour into your lip balm tubes (I use <a href="https://www.aromatics.com/products/accessories/lip-balm-tubes" target="_blank">THESE</a>) and pots. Put lids on as it begins to harden. Use within 6 months. </span><br />

So imagine my delight when I discovered there is a HUGE community on Instagram of people who enjoy making lists...Just like me! Yay! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ36fDS8t-Ls3ZbSQAUEcDUagacl9qMwpaX6QnDm-MuUiytuCB7UzuExKx5bjbmtyRi7QS0OdzgisRddQZqN9Zwkcpg5ie3NGZf5KS5GDNy0vGGn0kYZpD_E8nIErMICxHbF-RVaJnr6Xv/s1600/listing+and+ig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ36fDS8t-Ls3ZbSQAUEcDUagacl9qMwpaX6QnDm-MuUiytuCB7UzuExKx5bjbmtyRi7QS0OdzgisRddQZqN9Zwkcpg5ie3NGZf5KS5GDNy0vGGn0kYZpD_E8nIErMICxHbF-RVaJnr6Xv/s1600/listing+and+ig.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I discovered this through one of my favorite Etsy shops - <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ILoveItAll" target="_blank">I Love It All</a> - and the owner, Monika. I started following her on Instagram last year (you can find her <a href="https://instagram.com/monikawright_iloveitall/" target="_blank">HERE</a>) and discovered so many other "listers". I didn't even know this was a thing! </span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">First off, I joined the March 30 Day of Lists Challenge - search Instagram #30Lists to see all the brilliantly creative lists. This is a $10 twice a year group that gives you a list prompt each day for 30 days (March and September). By signing up, you get discount codes to awesome shops, a private Facebook group and entry into the private blog. It was totally worth the $10 to get my creative juices flowing and be inspired by the amazing people participating. You can find out more <a href="http://30daysoflists.com/" target="_blank">HERE</a> and join me in September when the next set of lists comes out. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhZarfgl7D7sYONj9hwN76byaA7zDa2gXlpcto86meuxHDoxDLabhmG1E_AQCzWWvUohHyMAWo_u7JoegWvj1J5B7mdvrq-U1cGjG78bQqg8H4MV3b38JcMQDO59WM1PW114mbPpBamvv/s1600/listers+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhZarfgl7D7sYONj9hwN76byaA7zDa2gXlpcto86meuxHDoxDLabhmG1E_AQCzWWvUohHyMAWo_u7JoegWvj1J5B7mdvrq-U1cGjG78bQqg8H4MV3b38JcMQDO59WM1PW114mbPpBamvv/s1600/listers+collage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">By participating in #30Lists (that's the short hand for the above challenge), I found so many more listers and planners. These two communities come together on Instagram for some seriously inspiring creative listing. I decided to follow many of these crafty listing ladies on Instagram. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">One of the ladies I followed is The Reset Girl (<a href="http://www.theresetgirlshop.com/" target="_blank">her shop</a>, <a href="https://instagram.com/theresetgirl/" target="_blank">her Instagram</a>). She loved all the listing so much, she created her own version of free monthly prompts. You can access her lists <a href="http://listersgottalist.com/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Her project is called Listers Gotta List and you can find the inspiring posts with #listersgottalist on Instagram. If you're new to listing in a creative way - really there's NO wrong way to do this - Corey The Reset Girl offers YouTube videos to show you how she crafts her lists. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpXm3sri2dZEGrvGaXgL3ekFXgEaPf_5gLFojljQwMV-k-wi5-Q-IR-OG-VOhm4ZikuilnrZBVmi1JOQ2kOMPkq8PPQA2JnpImvAz9luxnlRItr97x1CvlF2eyxFxzg8cStvj5iLa51Yyo/s1600/IMG_3042.2015-04-09_201834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpXm3sri2dZEGrvGaXgL3ekFXgEaPf_5gLFojljQwMV-k-wi5-Q-IR-OG-VOhm4ZikuilnrZBVmi1JOQ2kOMPkq8PPQA2JnpImvAz9luxnlRItr97x1CvlF2eyxFxzg8cStvj5iLa51Yyo/s1600/IMG_3042.2015-04-09_201834.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I have found great support in this new-to-me Instagram community and I think many of you will too. Check it out and give my public Instagram account a follow for all my crafty lists and projects: <a href="https://instagram.com/craftymue/" target="_blank">@CraftyMue</a>. Here's some other awesome listers and otherwise crafty people to follow: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">My thoughts on Instagram: Have you not jumped on board yet? I was reluctant for a long time to join Instagram, feeling like it was just another thing like Facebook. For me Instagram is now my favorite (well, it's tied with Twitter) social media platform. There's awesome communities and so many beautiful photos out there. I encourage you to give it a try, I think you'll love it!</span><br />

I have a lot of mixed emotions about this change. Overall, though I am excited for the opportunities and new experiences to come.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcksr2QHqOTORJD52Tea-7VC7tXr5xVHGsi8hdtz8k9PhGgiQ9rf2ax_4CtrvOKgMRjpgrkJUZSBCWjim8ODaNKVq_qMnbRVmCJyUK9fdEKL0dUE39IyPS7WT01r9gvqGr5mDqwIu1aJVh/s1600/photo+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcksr2QHqOTORJD52Tea-7VC7tXr5xVHGsi8hdtz8k9PhGgiQ9rf2ax_4CtrvOKgMRjpgrkJUZSBCWjim8ODaNKVq_qMnbRVmCJyUK9fdEKL0dUE39IyPS7WT01r9gvqGr5mDqwIu1aJVh/s1600/photo+(3).jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">This got me thinking about what types of things I will want to take with me to work. My new job has the potential to be high stress at times, requiring a lot of focus. Plus, I could be working long hours. I will be in a big office environment so I will want to be considerate of my coworkers who may not appreciate my plethora of scents and potions. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Inhalers will be a main staple in my essential oil arsenal for work. {Need info on inhalers? Check out my post <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/10/what-is-nasal-inhaler.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.}</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Lip balm, of course. I'm trying out a new recipe or two to nourish in a dry air environment (stay tuned for that recipe). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Hand salve can act as something to hydrate my skin plus help it will help fight germs.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Essential oils that are great in a work environment, based on information in Chapter 4 of <i>The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood</i>:</span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Oils to combat stale air: lemon, lavender, rosemary, grapefruit, cypress</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Oils to help concentration: basil, bergamot, grapefruit</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Oils to clear bacteria and viruses: lavender, rosemary, cypress, bergamot</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Writer's cramp essential oils: rosemary, germanium, cypress</span></li>

After posting about the kit, I was thinking about the various things that I take with me when I travel. Over the years, I've definitely gotten some great tips, tricks and ideas from other people. With spring on the horizon and summer not far away, the travel bug seems to be in the air. So to prepare, I wanted to share these ideas with you, with the hope that they will help you pack on your next travel adventure.</span><br />

<b style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-large;"><u>What I Take When I Travel:</u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><u>Small diffuser</u> - I have a specific diffuser (<a href="http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B006U7NONC" target="_blank">this one</a>) that I have in a bag ready to go, it's a good size and fits easily into my luggage.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><u>Essential oil travel bag</u> - this includes 5ml bottles of essential oils, small bottles of carrier oil to properly dilute whichever essential oil I need; it's already put together and in the bag with my diffuser.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><u>Immunity blend inhaler</u> - you can find that recipe <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2014/07/fighting-summer-colds.html" target="_blank">HERE</a></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><u>Lotion bars</u> - you can find recipes <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/10/lotion-bars-lotion-to-go.html" target="_blank">HERE </a>and <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2014/06/diy-dandelion-salve-bars.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>, these are great for travel, no liquid and easy to store</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><u>Extra lip balm</u> (of course!) - find my recipe <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/01/lip-balm-bliss.html" target="_blank">HERE</a></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><u>Lavender + vodka linen spray</u> - to help me sleep and hopefully keep the bed bugs away (recipe <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/02/favorite-eo-vodka-custom-linen-spray.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><u>Protective blend spray</u> - for hotel room bathrooms, yuck! (<i>Confession: I hate hotels, am totally grossed out by them and sleep in a sleep sack, much to my husband's amusement.</i>)</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Not everything needs to be essential oil related. Here's Krysta talking about things she</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> likes to keep in stock and use regularly, taking them with her when she travels:</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">1)<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Toms-Maine-Deodorant-Aluminum-free-2-25-Ounce/dp/B001FB5O9A" target="_blank"> Tom's Lavender Deodorant</a>: I personally haven't used haven't used the "regular kind" of deodorant in a year and a half. I love this stuff.<br />2) <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Kiss-My-Face-Moisture-11-Ounce/dp/B001E6TV7M" target="_blank">Kiss My Face Cool Mint Moisture Shave:</a> A bottle of this shaving cream will last you a long time. I just purchased my second bottle and the first one I had lasted over 5 months. It doesn't foam up like regular shaving cream but lathers nicely and creates smooth/soft legs. This stuff rocks! I'm never going back to regular shaving cream.<br />3) <a href="http://www.kiehls.com/Ultra-Facial-Cream/622,default,pd.html" target="_blank">Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream</a>: This one is kinda spendy, but a little goes a long ways and it is super light weight and doesn't add extra oil to my face. I use it in rotation with my Clinique moisturizer.<br />4) <a href="http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=37272&catid=190119&aid=338666&aparam=37272&kpid=37272&CAWELAID=120142990000002547&CAGPSPN=pla&kpid=37272" target="_blank">TN Dickensen's Witch Hazel</a>: I used to spike this with clary sage and loved it. Lately, I've been using it plain but have thought about adding lavender.<br />5) <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Bath-Bombs/bath-bombs,en_US,sc.html" target="_blank">Lush Bath Bombs</a> (for the extra special splurge) ... for a vacation with an awesome bath tub or just to treat yourself to an at home vacation evening. I LOVE these. Love them. Sigh.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Book Title: </b><i>The Fragrant Mind: Aromatherapy for Personality, Mind, Mood and Emotion</i><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Author:</span> Valerie Ann Worwood</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large; font-weight: bold;">Published: </span><span style="font-size: large;">1996, New World Library</span></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large; font-weight: bold;">My star rating: </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">5</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">/5</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /><b>My thoughts:</b> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I picked up this book because I, like most if not all of us, struggle with my emotional well-being. I have a few personality hang ups that I would love to use essential oils to help ease or overcome. I tend to obsess about things, I sometimes feel anxious and stressed, and I'm not always positive when I want to be. The book is careful to point out that essential oils will not fix your problems, but they can be used in addition to other things (like therapy) to help. Additionally, essential oils can enhance our healthy mental well-being, assisting in making us more assertive, calm and confident.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">This book is in four parts - 1) Pathways to the Mind, 2) Emotional Healing and Aromatherapy, 3) Aroma-Genera: Human Characteristics and Personalities of Essential Oils, and 4) the appendixes, notes, bibliography and index.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Part one</b> covers some background information on the history of drugs, essential oils and the mind, and using essential oils in public settings. <b>Part two</b> is the section that I was most interested in, it looks at emotional healing using essential oils, including a list of common emotional problems, such as anxiety and panic attacks. It also covers other ways to take control, using meditation and visualization. There's also a chapter for healing professions - including doctors and counselors. <b>Part three</b> dives into the world of Aroma-Genera, which is something I haven't come across previously. It is putting "human characteristics and personalities" to essential oils. You'll find out about the nine personality groups (<i>florals, fruities, herbies, leafies, resinies, rooties, seedies, spicies and woodies</i>) and the essential oils that go with them. Next you'll discover the individual personalities of over 40 commonly used essential oils, like bergamot and peppermint. <b>Part four</b> includes safety data, a piece of the therapeutic components of essential oils, suppliers, useful addresses, and other reference information. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Overall, I would <b>recommend this book for</b> readers who are </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">looking enhance their mood or mental state with essential oils. You should </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">already have a basic understand of essential oils, since there isn't a lot of background information. </span><br />

Because I'm always up for a challenge and loving to create kits, I quickly agreed to help with the project. To start, I pulled out my essential oil recipe journals to see what I could find. As I went through, I found recipes that where gender neutral in scent and application. Once I had a handful of fun recipes, I began assembling the kit. See below for a fun addition to your next travel adventure.</span><br />

I'll be honest, it's HARD to find great content to share with people, to create things that are "clickable" and get views. It's even hard to come up with things that don't end up getting a lot of views. It's become a chore and not something I look forward to - repeatedly I'm working on a post in the wee hours of Monday morning out of obligation to have a post there when you expect it. I want to get back to being excited to share things with you, to find and create great ideas, recipes, tips and crafts that we will all enjoy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">So after a few months of going back and forth, talking about it over and over, feeling guilty, worrying about my faithful followers, I have decided to go ahead and try something new.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">For now, I'm committing to blogging </span><span style="color: magenta; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><u>every other Monday</u></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> instead of every Monday. Hopefully this will give me more time to put together quality content instead of just throwing something together because I feel like I <i>have</i> to. Maybe I'll miss the weekly posts and go back to it, or maybe this will lead to other changes, only time will tell. I hope you'll support me on this change, as you've supported other changes I've made in the last two years. </span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVXOKPyVa9QD-71-7QnoFHxKcSD1A_xdbsAYc1buJscG1dhigHHRwwt6OoXJ4GKQ1gp1NqhwuRHhywizlunE9Rn78K3oXAiFj2c4NhmytBNZnLYOiXFLfwver0FajLOvGLZugXEZVa8Yzu/s1600/photo+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVXOKPyVa9QD-71-7QnoFHxKcSD1A_xdbsAYc1buJscG1dhigHHRwwt6OoXJ4GKQ1gp1NqhwuRHhywizlunE9Rn78K3oXAiFj2c4NhmytBNZnLYOiXFLfwver0FajLOvGLZugXEZVa8Yzu/s1600/photo+(1).jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Are you looking for an easy DIY project? Then making foaming hand soap is the project for you! Not only is this project easy, but it will also save you money. With both of those things, you really can't get it wrong.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b><u></u></b></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b><u>Basic Foaming Hand Soap</u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">In a <a href="http://www.specialtybottle.com/foamerpetplasticbottlesmi.aspx" target="_blank">foaming hand soap bottle </a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Fill 2/3 with water</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Top with castile soap*</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Add essential oils**</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">That's it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">* I prefer to use the non scented castile soap (like <a href="http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/dr.-bronner's-18-in-1-hemp-pure-castile-soap-baby-mild/ID=prod6143593-product?ext=gooBaby_Kids_ampersand_Toys_PLA_Bath_Essentials_prod6143593_pla&adtype=pla&kpid=sku6127083&sst=95dd7545-b5a1-443c-a07e-198fc962879d&kpid=sku6127083" target="_blank">THIS</a>). I recently got a deal on peppermint castile soap, I find it a bit over powering but couldn't pass up a deal!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">** My foaming hand soap bottles are about 10 oz and I only add about 10-15 drops of essential oil. Always double check the </span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">dilution chart </span><a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-solution-for-dilution.html" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;" target="_blank">HERE</a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Now to <b>personalize your soap</b> with essential oils. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTAMlQsGulO0I-hnG8Ko3QMLvsH781QjH-k2bH_qLEK8u9JcT_VsQwwAxIZqIQYShq0nWe9WSOxlafQmsECO4gpec8B1rCjLbdrmu-uUrKzisldjZ3jwHQFgO8Br8ouzJ6GRd_-wo81EYm/s1600/foaming+hand+soap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTAMlQsGulO0I-hnG8Ko3QMLvsH781QjH-k2bH_qLEK8u9JcT_VsQwwAxIZqIQYShq0nWe9WSOxlafQmsECO4gpec8B1rCjLbdrmu-uUrKzisldjZ3jwHQFgO8Br8ouzJ6GRd_-wo81EYm/s1600/foaming+hand+soap.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Right now, I am loving <span style="color: #6aa84f;">spearmint</span> added to the <span style="color: #38761d;">peppermint castile soap</span>, I find it helps to balance it out and gives a refreshingly cool scent for winter. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #b45f06;">Protective blends</span> (every company has a different name) are lovely used in small amounts, it can burn. Some people say it smells like sunshine.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">With the <span style="color: #38761d;">peppermint castile soap</span>, I really love using <span style="color: #c27ba0;">lavender</span> or <span style="color: orange;">wild orange</span>. The smell is great and it gives me a pick me up. You could even use both for another fragrant combination. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #f1c232;">Lemon </span>is a favorite in the kitchen. I love the fresh clean scent. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Krysta thinks <span style="color: #7f6000;">f<span style="background-color: white;">rankincense</span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"> and </span><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #f6b26b;">bergamot </span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">make a nice musk scented soap. It's a nice one for men, but she enjoys the smell too.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">You can also add a squirt of <span style="color: #6aa84f;">glycerin </span>and a drop or two of <span style="color: #6fa8dc;">vitamin E</span> oil for soft skin. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Back in December 2013, I made several sets of these hand warmers. They are so cute, fun and very simple to make! Take scrap fabric, cut out squares using your pinking shears, sew three sides, fill with rice and finish sewing. Microwave for about 20 seconds before popping them into your pocket. You can check out my original post <a href="http://adropofthis.blogspot.com/2013/12/homemade-holiday.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>; this idea came from <a href="http://raeannkelly.com/a-little-cozy-goes-a-long-way-and-a-hand-warmer-diy/" target="_blank">Rae Ann Kelly</a>.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Book Title: </b><i>Advanced Aromatherapy: the Science of Essential Oil Therapy</i><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Author:</span> Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large; font-weight: bold;">Published: </span><span style="font-size: large;">Originally published in German in 1995; first US edition published in 1998.</span></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large; font-weight: bold;">My star rating: </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">3/5</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>My thoughts:</b> This book is just like the title suggests - advanced. It starts by covering some general topics on essential oils and then dives right into the chemistry. I will be honest, I got lost in the science of it all. I had to read several sections multiple times and am still not sure I grasped the concepts. Despite this, there is some very fascinating information in this book. One thing I learned is how the terpenes control what type of effect the essential oil has on a person (i.e. emotional, antiseptic, etc).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The following quote reflects what sets this book apart from others:</span></div>
<div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">"What has been missing in the aromatherapy literature is a simple, conclusive system that connects essential oils and their effects. First, such a system would enable us to recognize the healing effects of an oil based on its position in the system, and second, to mix essential oils to create optimized synergistic effects."</span></span></blockquote>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyyPrCSKtwF5g5f1EM9RGj2imp6YBmw9kkh9UkTQDxvGkPqtiiDms0mPoQ5CgXZw15jheZUxSuJKU7pId6_uSokp-ItNFwcPYsOT7fHk671yHR3OJ2SZNQMoj7yAwVqkd5Cu-FF0t0s1LW/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyyPrCSKtwF5g5f1EM9RGj2imp6YBmw9kkh9UkTQDxvGkPqtiiDms0mPoQ5CgXZw15jheZUxSuJKU7pId6_uSokp-ItNFwcPYsOT7fHk671yHR3OJ2SZNQMoj7yAwVqkd5Cu-FF0t0s1LW/s1600/photo.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">In doing this, he illustrates (literally) the structure-effect diagram. I felt like this could be great and help readers understand the structure. But, no matter how many times I read through this section I wasn't able to understand how and why the diagrams were set up the way they were. This is likely from my inability to grasp the concept and not necessarily a flaw in the book. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The final section of the book talks about how essential oils can be used to treat different issues. There are recipe to try for various ailments, including skin treatments. that use mL as measurements vs. drops. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Overall, I would recommend this book for readers who already have some advanced aromatherapy education under their belt. Others who might find this book to be awesome are those with an understanding and interest in chemistry.</span></span><br />

It has been tumbling around in my head for awhile. Are you like that with projects? I have to think about it, sometimes for months, figuring out how I'm going to do it, come up with several (usually very complex) ideas, completely over think it and then one day *BOOM* I think of the easiest way to do it and get it done! That's not always the case, but definitely was in this instance. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">I got this spice rack as a wedding present from my friend, Abby. This fall we will have been married ten years (WOW!) and we have lived in four houses since then - and this spice rack has been along for the ride, finding a place in all of my kitchens. The labels have rubbed off on some bottles while others have been relabeled with a Sharpie. I've been thinking about a way to spice it up for awhile, but wasn't sure what route to take.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Today I grabbed some sugar on of my bin, saw the chalkboard</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> sticker on it and *light bulb* got to work on making new labels for my spice jars. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">First off, they needed to be cleaned. I don't want to think too hard about why they get so much gunk on them sitting out on the counter, so I skipped that thought process and just wipe them down! I cleaned the base too. I just used water, a rag and some elbow grease. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Chalkboard vinyl (like <a href="http://www.theplaidbarn.com/product/chalkboard-vinyl/">THIS</a>)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Punch - I used a circle (<a href="http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=119860">what I have</a>) </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Chalk pen (<a href="http://amzn.com/B0086FHR7K">what I have</a>) </span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />Yup that's it, three items! Probably many of you have them already in your craft bins, I did. Don't you love that?! Extra easy: if you don't have the chalkboard vinyl and punch, you can buy chalkboard labels at a lot of retailers. <br /><br /><b>Step 1: </b>Punch out your vinyl. You could also cut it with scissors or use a cutting machine like a Silhouette Cam</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">eo (which I LOVE).</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Step 2: </b>Use your chalk pen to write you spice name on the label. (If this is your first time using a chalk pen, read the directions and test it out before starting; they take a little getting use to.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Step 3:</b> Peel off the back of the sticker/vinyl and place on your jar.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Note:</b> You can switch step 2 and 3 if you'd like. A few of mine did get smeared when I applied them (this is likely because I didn't wait for them to dry...I'm not good at waiting). </span><br />

Who has been here since the beginning? Whether you started with me in January 2013 or are just now following me, I'm so glad you enjoy the blog and keep reading. It's what keeps me going, pushes me when I get mentally stuck and keeps me searching for new and fun things to share. Thank you!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Over the last two years, the blog has changed a lot. It was initially started to promote and share my journey using essential oils. Because of this, I have learned so much about essential oil care, use and safety. Writing this blog pushes me to learn more, read more, and share more. Last year, I began incorporating and sharing more craft projects, book review and a cornucopia of other ideas geared to help tackle those things in our lives that seem overwhelming. These are my passion and what drives me to produce content mean to inspire. </span><br />

If you're like me, it's always nice to have a handful of gift ideas for those "just in case" instances. Here is a list of a few of my favorites that are quick and easy. You should have most of the ingredients already on hand. This makes each idea perfect to throw together when you're in a pinch! They are also great gifts to give if your budget has run low but your list still has a few people left. You can give these gifts with confidence they will be much appreciated! </span><br />

All the craftiness, people talking about their projects and sharing ideas. Not to mention family togetherness, traditions, and let's not forget about the presents. Although the holidays are a happy occasion, they can also be a stressful time. Take a minute for yourself, pour a cup of tea (or mulled cider) and browse through some of my favorite holiday links. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>My thoughts:</b> This book took me almost a month to get through; it took me back to my college days of studying chemistry. This </span></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">is reminiscent of a textbook in length, as well as quantity and quality of information. Despite that, </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">I was pleasantly surprised by the readability of this text. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I didn't read every word, but I did read a vast majority of it. For me, t</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">he most important aspect of this book is the ability to pull it off of my shelf and access the safety information within. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I recommend getting a few packs of tabs to help you set up this book for easy reference (thanks to Tonya at <a href="http://www.created2fly.net/" target="_blank">Created2Fly</a> for giving me this tip). Here's a photo of what my tab set up looks like:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd0rB4r2vKWeZXyPVRjFfghB1WWC9alnz2t5gNtF6eNt7Fdjuk39LsT8f1y08Stfe_kbeRdaMwalsWT7FdjJUIqV247MMz_rBeGu1ikOSNbS3k3YmNynkTPL3gaNRV0egqHjt28CBjE1RZ/s1600/IMG_1757.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd0rB4r2vKWeZXyPVRjFfghB1WWC9alnz2t5gNtF6eNt7Fdjuk39LsT8f1y08Stfe_kbeRdaMwalsWT7FdjJUIqV247MMz_rBeGu1ikOSNbS3k3YmNynkTPL3gaNRV0egqHjt28CBjE1RZ/s1600/IMG_1757.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The blue tabs mark each chapter, the yellow long tabs mark the Essential Oil Profile and Constituent Profile chapters. Within those two chapters, I used small tabs to mark the essential oils (green) and constituents (purple) alphabetically. I used a few small pink tabs to mark charts I wanted to reference. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">What's inside you ask? The fifteen chapters are as follows: </span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Introduction </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Essential oil composition</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Toxicity</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Kinetics and dosing </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The skin</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The respiratory system</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The cardiovascular system</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The urinary system</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The nervous system</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The reproductive system</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Cancer and the immune system</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Essential oil profiles</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Constituent profiles</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">General safety guidelines</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Following these chapters you will find another 100 pages of information, including 80 pages of references!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Overall, <b>I would recommend this book for readers who</b> use essential oils with any kind of frequency, read other essential oils books and blogs. This is, in my opinion, THE resource to use for cross reference all other information you read. </span></span><br />

<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">One of my favorite traditions is right after we sit down to dinner, we snap a photo of everyone sitting around the table. It is a basic stamp, but the photo example showed it beautifully colored in with a wintery feel. I asked my crafty friend, Becky, what she would use to color in the photo. We talked about a few options and I decided to give each of them a try. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
</span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">The four different methods I tried were colored pencil, color chalks, pens and watercolor with stamp pads. Here are photos of each method to help you decide which look you want for your holiday card. All of the methods I demonstrate were easier than I anticipated</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">. While all the methods look slightly different, I think they all look nice.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">All these methods seem self-explanatory, with the exception of the watercolor using a stamp pad. For this method, you squish the closed pad, to get the ink onto the inside of the cover. Then use water and a paintbrush to pick up the ink. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
</span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Which of these methods is your favorite? I enjoyed using them all but I think I like the pencil or chalk the best. </span><br />

</span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">In order to celebrate my 100th blog post (OH MY can you believe it?!) and that it's Krysta's birthday (my behind-the-scenes gal), I'm having a giveaway. A set of four cards, in the theme of your choice. </span><br />

Sometimes I think, "holy cats how did I get all those wrinkles?!"</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The recipe I am talking about comes from <a href="http://simplelifemom.com/" target="_blank">Simple Life Mom</a>. In addition to shea butter, it calls for nine wonderful essential oils, plus sweet almond and apricot kernel oils. Over on her blog you can read great information about why each ingredient was chosen. So head over to her post <a href="http://simplelifemom.com/2014/09/03/anti-aging-eye-cream-with-11-essential-oils/" target="_blank">HERE</a> and grab the recipe.</span><br />

<a name='more'></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Before starting, I was intimidated to try this recipe. I had never whipped shea butter or any carrier oils and usually skipped recipes that called for it. My first step was to purchase a used hand beater from the thrift store to dedicate to potion making. After I got the beater, I decided it was time to give the recipe a try.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Making the eye cream was beyond easy once I got started. After whipping the shea butter, I added the apricot kernel and sweet almond oils slowly. From there, I began to add the essential oils, skipping rose hip essential oil because I don't own that one. I whipped the mixture for just over one minute before pouring it into several small containers. The final product is about 3 ounces.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I have been on an aromatherapy reading spree the past few weeks. I hope you enjoy these book reviews as much as I enjoy reading the books.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Book Title:</b> <i>The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to the Use of Oils in Aromatherapy and Herbalism </i><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Author:</span> Julia Lawless</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large; font-weight: bold;">Published: </span><span style="font-size: large;">1995, reprint </span><span style="font-size: large;">1997; Element Books</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">(There are other additions available, this is the version I have.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span><br /></span>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">My star rating: </span>4/5<br /><br /><b>My thoughts:</b> This illustrated encyclopedia is wonderful. I particularly enjoy the photos and sketches of the plants and the photos of the color of the essential oils. This adds a wealth of information that is not available in other texts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
This book is in three parts: <i>An Introduction to Aromatics, Therapeutic Index </i>and <i>The Oils</i>. The <b>first section</b> gives the reader and introduction to aromatherapy including history and how essential oils work with the systems of the body. There is a wealth of information and each topic is briefly covered, with references. The<b> second section</b> gives a therapeutic index grouped by systems of the body, with an abbreviation guide for suggested applications. The <b>final section</b> covers 165 essential oils. This is the most fascinating to me. It includes color photos and sketches with a description of the leaves, fruits and other plant material. We also receive a brief description of herbal and folk tradition, aromatherapy/home use, other uses, distribution and other species information. This section is the main reason I enjoyed this book so much. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Overall, I would recommend this book for readers who love aromatherapy and want to learn more about particular essential oils. I also feel it's important to have other more recently written and published essential oils books to cross reference with for updated safety information. </span></span><br />
